Straight answers about RibRaft, pod floors, costs, timelines and the ground conditions we work in across Taupō and the central North Island.
We're based in Taupō and lay foundations across the central North Island — including Taupō, Tūrangi, Rotorua, Tokoroa, Mangakino, Reporoa and surrounding rural areas. If you're not sure whether your site is in range, get in touch and we'll let you know.
We install RibRaft Plastic-Pod raft slabs, Cupolex Ecodome, pod floor foundations, traditional concrete slab floors, NZS 3604 timber-framed foundations, and block and retaining walls. We match the right system to your site, your build and your budget.
RibRaft is a waffle-style raft slab built on a grid of recycled-plastic pods with steel reinforcing poured in concrete. It's strong, thermally efficient (warmer underfoot than a bare slab), suits a wide range of ground conditions, and goes in faster than a traditional footing-and-slab build. It's our most popular residential system.
Yes — both. We work with homeowners, group housing companies, developers and commercial builders. From a single-house pad to larger commercial pours, the same standards apply.
Most residential foundations — set-out, excavation, boxing, pods, reinforcing and pour — take around one to two weeks on site, weather and engineering allowing. Larger or staged commercial pours run longer. We give you a realistic timeline with your quote.
Cost depends on the system, slab size, ground conditions, reinforcing schedule and access to the site. Pumice soils and sloping sites around Lake Taupō can change the engineering. The honest answer is we need to see the plans and the site — quotes are free and we won't pad them.
For most builds, yes — we work to engineer-specified plans and Producer Statements. If you don't have plans yet, we can point you toward engineers and designers we work with regularly.
Yes. Founder Pera Taepa has more than 40 years in the building industry, and the team works to NZS 3604 and engineer specifications on every job. We work alongside local suppliers and inspectors, and you get work we're happy to put our name on.
Pumice soils, sloping sections and high-water-table sites are normal around here. We work to whatever the engineer specifies — pod systems, deeper footings, additional reinforcing — and we've laid foundations across the full range of central North Island ground.
Email info@abelfoundations.co.nz with your plans (or a brief on what you're building and where), or use the quote form on our home page. We'll come and look at the site, talk through the build, and get a clear written quote back to you.
